Each time we accomplish an action, we are establishing connections between certain neurons. This connection persists and is accessible if we wish to relive the emotions, the sensations, the behaviour. With each repetition of the action, we reinforce the connection established between the concerned neurons. This is how we create habits. A habit is a practically irresistible impulse (I said practically, right?), which drives us to act, or react in a certain manner, or to say certain things, or to perform certain actions.

True spirituality encompasses our consciousness of the oness of life and the universe. To be able to truly acknowledge our link with all that surrounds us, the visible and invisible, the perceptible and imperceptible, we have to give our bodies food that will elevate us spiritually.

We are not the sum of our cells, protons, neutrons, electrons and the electrical charges circulating between them. No more than we are merely the reflection in the miror. Science these days has us accustomed to consider only what we can see, touch, measure. The intangible, the subtle: forget it! Not considered and ill considered.

In order to elevate our consciousness, we must make the effort to provide our bodies with the indispensible vital energy necessary to raise awareness. The foods yielding the highest vibrational energy are the ones still growing at the time of consumption. We are talking about sprouted nuts and seeds, sprouts, and fresh root vegetables. Wild edible plants, organic by default if not polluted by humans, come in close second especially if consumed right after harvesting.

Thanks to the Internet, all that you want to know, learn, understand, you can have at your fingertips, in the comfort of your own home. No need to face winter woes, fall rains, spring slush or summer heat: two clicks of a mouse and three or four words entered into a search engine and you are deluged with information! There are more and more resources in raw and living foods. Healthy Crusine shines in its little corner of cyberspace as a place of information sharing, both in English and in French. There are way more English sites out there, now. But more is not necessarily equal to better! So be careful while researching and always ensure that the information you gather on the Internet is applicable to you and appropriate in your particular case. There is nothing like the wisdom of your own body, combined with the experience of others, generously seasoned with good old fashion common sense, to ensure your success on the live food journey, no matter what language.

It's as if we all had, in our own home, a virtual instructor to explain to us what we are seeking. From the most efficient way to make a batch of nut milk, all the way to how to daze the crowds, you will find treasures of instructive and entertaining information on the Internet.

   

Beet: Ravishing Round Redness

Varied Raw BeetsDuring the cold season, root vegetables come in handy! I found a recipe featuring beets 0and modified it (the original fed an army!). Depending on the size of the portions, one can easily feed an average family with the recipe provided. The recipe can be warmed up in the dehydrator (1 hour) or on the stove on low heat checking that it doesn't get too hot (stick your finger in, it never fails!).

If you have a vegetable garden, you may vary the colour of your meals by including different coloured beets. From bright red to yellow all the way to a lovely shade of pink.

And you all know my love of nutritional information. I just love to know what I eat and how it contributes to my health and energy! And beets are not in lack of nutritional attributes. See for yourself!

The beet is an excellent source of folic acid; a very good source of manganese and potassium; a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, magnesium, tryptophan, iron, copper and phosphorus. Not to mention the fact that its leaves are even tastier than spinach, according to some!!!
