How to make raw and living foods attractive to children?

Here are a few tricks to get the young ones in your life to want to eat raw and living foods. Put these in practice and see the little ones get all excited about this food.

1) Choose something

Bring the children grocery shopping. Get them to choose some fruits, vegetables or other raw foods that they find interesting. Make it even more interesting, and encourage reflection on living foods, by asking them to choose a color rainbow of raw food items.

2) Ask for their input

If you have a picky eater, why not ask him/her for helpful suggestions. And, of course, respect his/her input. Have the picky eater look at your raw and living food recipe books (with all the yummy pictures!) for inspiration.

3) Dip it

Any vegetable looks so much better when dressed up in a delicious dip. Hummus is always popular, as well as spinach dips. And make it look pretty!

4) Help me prepare

Ask the children to help out in the kitchen so they get to prepare the meal. Take the spiralizer out, give them beets and let them work their magic! No fussing over the mess: we're having fun! Cooperation in living foods taste so much better!

5) Have a good laugh

Humor is so important when trying to get children to try new raw and living foods. Children like a good laugh. Take advantage of this and present them with a happy face raw pizza or fruit kabobs. Assured fun!

6) Vary the textures

Sometimes, the child doesn't like the texture of a particular food but not its taste. Then, try to present that food in a soup or dip, or dehydrated... If the child refuses to eat a particular raw or living food, work with him/her to find ways to make it palatable. Don't give up but don't make an obsession out of it: your child's tastes will evolve... with time...

7) "I want dessert!"

Children love desserts. A well-know fact. So why not offer them raw desserts? Those raw desserts are so healthy (why mention it?) for them. You can start your child's initiation to raw foods with desserts. Move on from there. Why not have a dessert fiesta? Invite some friends over and "stuff your faces" with raw and living foods desserts?

If you put these few tricks in practice, raw and living foods will be a lot easier for your children to get accustomed to. Keep your sense of humor. Children do grow up and get wiser...in time.
