Positive Diversions
The start of a habit is like a fine thread, but with every repetition of the action, we add another fine thread, which added to the preceeding thread, ends up forming a strong cable that support us firmly, thoughts and actions. - inspired by Orison Swett Marden
Each time we accomplish an action, we are establishing connections between certain neurons. This connection persists and is accessible if we wish to relive the emotions, the sensations, the behaviour. With each repetition of the action, we reinforce the connection established between the concerned neurons. This is how we create habits. A habit is a practically irresistible impulse (I said practically, right?), which drives us to act, or react in a certain manner, or to say certain things, or to perform certain actions.
During this Juice Feasting week, and at any other time during our lives too, we want to always create healthy, intelligent, productive habits. We have to strive to establish those at first, but in time, we will acquire the habit, the desire, the impulse to do what we did not feel inclined to do at first. So, what kinds of positive diversions can we cultivate, that would better us, make us better persons, that would increase our health capital and make us feel energized? Here is a list, surely not an exhautive one, of course. Add anything that inspires you, even if it's not a habit right now.
Positive Diversion List
- reading a book
- going for a walk
- learning how to paint
- playing with your kids
- search for inspiring or funny stories
- swimming
- smiling
- meditating
- practicing a sport
- gardening
Now you know how to teach yourself healthy habits. Repeat, repeat, and repeat some more the behaviour that you wish to integrate into your life. At some point in time, it will become a habit and you won't have to think about it anymore: you will accomplish it automatically, without striving to. It's that simple. And it works too!
Habitual Hugs,
