Raw 101 - Introduction to Living Food
Few subjects are as touchy as one's food choices. What a person chooses to eat seems to elicit just as much debate, arguments, bickering and posturing as religion, politics and even sexuality! Who would have thought?
Well, as far as I am concerned, I say: "Thanks, but no thanks!" Taboos have never served any noble purpose in society. So, let's talk about living food and raw food and what it means to be a raw fooder. Let's lift up the veil of ignorance and misinformation. Let's talk about it!
Okay, so what do we talk about? We could certainly start the discussion with the different approaches to living foods: do we favor fruits and greens? Are sprouts the solution to all that ails us? Wheatgrass will save the planet? Gourmet raw food? Ouch! There we go again!!! There seems to be just as much discord inside the raw food movement as outside of it. No matter, let's talk about it!
The newcomer to living food will seek out consensus, guidelines and directions to follow. There are none to be found. And that is actually a good thing! We are all individuals on this big beautiful planet, all different in our bodies, in our physical activity levels, in our objectives and aspirations, so on and so forth... It is completely impossible to come up with one diet that is the correct and only one for all human beings, all the time. Just consider the different climates that we live in, making certain foods available at certain times of year. There is no going around it: the live food diet must be a reflection of the person eating it, considering all the particularities of the environment of that person.
In an ideal world, monetary consideration would never enter the equation as far as food choices are concerned. We all know our world is far from ideal! So, we must take into consideration our budget when making food choices.
In an upcoming article, I'll go on about the attitude we should have towards all the often divergent information we are flooded with. In the meantime, feast on all that glorious variety and splendor that raw and living foods have to offer. For your greater pleasure and that of those around you!
